Ten individuals found guilty of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of spreading false claims regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to making defamatory statements about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's identity.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens brushed aside any factual proof that refuted her assertions choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she taught at his lycée.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
